Sawdust & Steel
about

About Sawdust & Steel.

Marcus and Danny spent a decade working for other people’s names before they started working under their own. Seven years in, the shop is in Oakville, the crew is eight people, and the standard is the same one they set on the first deck they finished as Sawdust & Steel.

our story

How this started.

Sawdust & Steel started in 2019 with two people and one truck. Marcus Cole and Danny Reeves grew up swinging hammers in their dads' garages — Marcus in Scarborough, Danny outside of Ajax — and came up on the tools learning from carpenters who measured twice and cut once because the board was expensive and the mistake was worse.

They spent a decade in other people's crews before starting their own — eight years for Marcus framing new builds, ten years for Danny doing renovation work. They came out of it tired of the same three things: corners cut where the inspector wouldn't look, materials swapped on the way from the quote to the install, and warranties written on paper that couldn't be enforced. The first thing they agreed on as a company was that their name would go on every invoice.

Seven years later the crew is eight people. There's a 2,400 sq ft shop in Oakville with a shaper, a planer, a sliding table saw, and a small paint booth. There are four trucks, a trailer, and 350+ finished projects across the GTA. Marcus and Danny are still on every job site — not supervising, but with a tape measure and a saw. They didn't hire their way out of the work; they hired their way into doing more of it.

what we stand for

Four rules we hold ourselves to.

Measure twice, cut once.

No board gets cut until the layout is drawn on paper or in SketchUp and confirmed with a tape against the wall. An hour of planning saves a day of re-doing a mitered return that didn't close.

Our name on the front.

Every job we finish is the reference for the next one. That's why we'll spend the extra ninety minutes caulking the inside of a corner no one will ever see — because the next client we want is the one your neighbor tells to call us.

Clean site, straight answers.

Shop-vac at the end of every shift. Dropcloth under every saw. Daily end-of-day update text to whoever hired us. If something on the schedule slipped, we'll tell you today, not at the walkthrough.

Past code, under warranty.

Every permit pulled, every inspection passed, every structural modification signed by our engineer. Five-year warranty on every nail. If it was our call and it failed inside five years, we come back and fix it on our own dollar.
