Start with the bowl and the tank
Find the toilet model number using its maker’s identification guide. Then download the bidet seat’s compatibility information and dimensioned drawing. Measure between the fixing holes, from those holes toward the front of the bowl, and from them back toward the tank or curved porcelain behind the seat. A large rear housing can collide even when the seat length is right.
Kohler provides a bidet-seat compatibility and comparison resource because seat choice involves more than a round-versus-elongated label. Confirm the exact combination with the manufacturer when it is absent from the list. Kohler: Bidet seat compatibility.
Bowl outline
Compare the rim shape and seat length, not just the catalogue category.
Rear clearance
Allow for the housing, lid movement and the tank’s actual curve.
Mounting access
Confirm that the supplied hardware can be installed in this bowl.
Services
Confirm water connection space and the model’s power requirements.
Look below and beside the toilet
Can the seat fixing nuts be reached, or does the bowl require top-fixing hardware? Can the specified water adapter fit without forcing the supply line into a kink? A skirted toilet can make both questions surprisingly important. Check that the isolation valve is reachable and working before planning any plumbing change.
Electric models need an appropriate electrical supply in the permitted location. Have a licensed electrical contractor assess new outlet work in Ontario using the product requirements and applicable rules. Do not plan an extension cord across the bathroom. Non-electric models avoid a power connection, but still need their specified water connection and compatibility checks. ESA explains how to verify a licensed contractor.
Make the room test as well as the bowl test
Check the control panel or remote position with the door shut and the vanity drawers open. Allow cleaning access behind the seat and a place to remove it for service. Consider whether the seat’s usable opening and added height feel comfortable for the people using it. The outline in a showroom tells only half the story.
Save the toilet and seat model numbers with the receipt. If installation requires different anchors or an adapter, obtain approved parts before work begins. A seat that keeps sliding afterward needs a mounting check, not a permanent adhesive fix.
