Measure the floor you will actually have
Tile thickness is only part of the change. Underlayment, levelling work, waterproofing and mortar all affect the surface the toilet sits on. Record the existing flange height before demolition, then work from the proposed finished assembly. If the floor is already installed, measure the real surface beside the flange rather than adding nominal package dimensions.
Oatey’s installation guide describes the flange sitting flush with or on top of the finished floor, with approved fasteners passing through that finish into the supporting subfloor. Use the instructions for the particular flange, pipe and seal system to resolve the final detail; do not turn one product drawing into a rule for every repair. Oatey: Installing a toilet flange.

Choose the repair after inspecting the existing flange
A sound flange that is low may accept a manufacturer-approved extension system. A cracked ring, corroded fixing or loose pipe connection needs a different repair. Photograph the pipe material, flange and floor before asking for parts. An extender that fits the diameter but cannot be sealed or fastened as designed is the wrong extender.
A flange left too high can also keep the porcelain base from sitting properly. Check the toilet manufacturer’s underside clearances during planning. Tightening the floor bolts to pull a bowl down is especially unhelpful when something solid is already holding it up.
Resetting is part of the flooring job
Kohler’s wax-ring guidance defers to the ring’s own installation instructions. Select the seal with the actual connection in view, and replace a disturbed seal as required by its maker. Kohler: Installing a toilet wax ring.
Keep enough time in the flooring schedule for plumbing corrections and testing. Once installed, the bowl should be stable, the supply connection accessible and the nearby floor dry. If it rocks, use the support checklist before applying a neat finishing bead that hides the evidence.
