Start with the roof structure
MiTek's roof-truss guidance prohibits unapproved cutting or alteration of truss components. That engineering principle is relevant; its Australian construction details are not an Ontario permit design. Have your own truss supplier or structural designer review the proposed opening.
Check the ladder while it is open
Mark the landing space and the full unfolding arc below. A ladder that blocks a bedroom doorway or lands against furniture is awkward before anyone carries a box. Include hatch insulation, air sealing, and the actual access purpose in the comparison. A ladder's own weight rating does not rate the attic floor.
