Check which door is actually misbehaving
Slide the glass panel and screen separately. If only the screen jumps, focus on its frame, rollers and track. If both bind in the same area, the shared sill or installation may need a closer look. Avoid pulling a crooked screen by its handle until it snaps back into place; lightweight frames can rack and leave the mesh permanently slack.
Inspect the screen from inside while it is safely supported. Are the corners square and tightly joined? Is the frame bowed? Does one wheel appear worn or missing? Photograph the roller housing as well as the wheel. The shape of the assembly often matters more than the wheel diameter when matching a replacement.
Watch where it leaves the track
Same dent every time
Inspect the track lip and roller path at that location.
Top disengages when pulled
Check the model's top engagement and roller tension.
One corner drops
Inspect that roller and the screen-frame corner.
Screen twists throughout travel
Check frame squareness before changing the latch.
For its 100 Series gliding screens, Andersen links roller adjustment to keeping the top rollers engaged and provides separate screen-latch alignment instructions Andersen: 100 Series gliding insect-screen installation and adjustment.
That is model-specific guidance, not a universal instruction to tighten every screen as far as possible. Excess pressure can make the screen difficult to move and accelerate wear. Clean accessible running surfaces first, then follow the correct adjustment sequence and check that the panel is captured properly at both top and bottom.
Do not order by colour alone
Record the manufacturer, door series, approximate age, screen dimensions and photographs of the corners, handle and rollers. A replacement part that nearly fits may put the wheel at the wrong height or provide insufficient travel. If the frame is bent or its corners are broken, roller replacement alone may be poor value. Compare a complete compatible screen with rebuilding the existing one.
If new mesh is part of the repair, the frame should remain square while it is installed. Over-tight mesh can distort a light frame. A shop can check that before sending you home with another screen that needs lifting on every trip to the barbecue. Do not remove the heavy glass panel unless the service instructions actually require it and safe handling is arranged.
Set the latch after the screen rolls correctly
Open and close the screen repeatedly with a normal hand position. It should reach the jamb without being twisted into place, and the latch should engage without lifting the panel. A screen is an insect barrier, not a fall-prevention guard or a security door. For a replacement window screen rather than a patio panel, use the screen measurement checklist. If the glass door is also heavy to move, investigate its rollers and track separately.
