The dehumidifier is excellent at collecting water. Carrying that water upstairs every evening is a different product feature, one the box did not advertise particularly loudly.
Gravity and pumps solve different routes
GE explains its dehumidifier drainage options. A gravity connection cannot simply push water uphill. Pump-equipped models have their own connection and operating instructions. Check your exact unit rather than borrowing another model's hose arrangement.
Keep the drain and maintenance accessible
Have the destination and any plumbing connection checked for suitability. Keep hoses protected from kinks, trips, and accidental displacement. Observe a complete operating cycle and inspect for leaks. Watch the receiving end as well as the machine: an empty bucket tells you little if the hose is draining behind a storage unit. On handover, we move the unit through the small amount of movement needed for filter access and check that the hose stays in its intended position. Retain access to filters and the bucket even if continuous drainage is installed. A dehumidifier manages indoor moisture; it does not repair groundwater entering the basement.

- Confirm water reaches the intended drain without leakage.
The useful purchase is a humidity-control system you can maintain. Include the last metre of the water's journey before deciding where the appliance will live.
