You open the door and the machine follows you. That is not a soft-close quirk. Keep people from leaning or standing on the door, and arrange an installation check rather than testing it repeatedly with a full lower rack.

Describe the movement without provoking it

Tell the installer whether the front lifts, the whole machine slides forward or one side rocks. Note recent countertop replacement, flooring work or appliance servicing. Photograph visible gaps and any detached bracket from a safe position; there is no need to pull the unit out to produce evidence.

What needs to be checked?
  • Machine tips forward

Stop use and verify approved anti-tip anchoring.

  • Machine rocks side to side

Check levelling and sound floor support as well as anchors.

  • Bracket is visible but loose

Check fasteners and the material they attach to; presence is not proof of holding.

Stone countertops need the right mounting method

Whirlpool: Dishwasher side mounting kit instructions is specifically for side mounting with hard-surface countertops and warns against using a dishwasher before installation is complete. It demonstrates an approved alternative for compatible equipment; it is not a universal kit for every brand. Obtain the dishwasher's model number and current instructions before ordering brackets.

Attaching to the cabinet sides requires sound material at the prescribed fixing locations. A screw spinning in an enlarged hole is not secure because its head looks flush. Likewise, a top bracket pushed against stone is not anchored simply because it cannot be seen. Let the appliance installer and countertop fabricator agree on the appropriate system.

Check the installation around the anchors

The unit should sit level as required, with the door clearing the counter and adjacent fronts. Hoses and the electrical connection must not be stretched, trapped or used to restrain movement. Work involving removal or servicing requires the power and water to be isolated according to the instructions, not just turning off a wash programme.

If flooring has raised the room in front of the appliance, assess the removal path before pulling. A machine stuck behind a flooring lip can turn a straightforward anchoring correction into a cabinet or countertop problem.

The finish check includes normal loading

Ask the installer to demonstrate the door and racks after securing the unit, check clearances and inspect connections for leaks. With a panel-ready model, unexpected door weight or incorrect spring setup can coexist with an anchoring defect. The custom-panel checks address that separate issue. Do not accept a door that behaves properly only while someone holds the dishwasher in place.
