The tile pattern is beautiful until the first outlet lands across its most interesting line. Outlets do not need to be a surprise delivered by the tiler.
Draw the elevation with the equipment in place
Show the countertop, cabinets, hood, sink, small appliances, switches, and receptacles on the wall drawing. Include the actual outlet covers. A tiny symbol on a plan can become a very visible rectangle in a slab backsplash.
ESA's backsplash planning advice recommends coordinating outlet placement with a Licensed Electrical Contractor. Let the electrical requirements establish the feasible locations before choosing which arrangement looks best.
Test how the counter will be used
Place the kettle, toaster, coffee machine, and anything that stays plugged in. Check whether cords cross a sink or the useful preparation area. A hidden-looking location is not an improvement if daily use becomes awkward.
Coordinate before the template or tile order
- Confirm the permitted outlet and switch locations with the electrician.
- Show them on the backsplash elevation and any slab template.
- Check cabinet-mounted lighting and controls at the same time.
- Agree who verifies the finished wall build-up and device fit.
If an existing outlet needs adjustment for thicker finishes, have the electrical detail resolved properly rather than improvising with the cover plate.
a well-placed outlet can look intentional. The goal is a coherent wall that supports a working kitchen, not an uninterrupted photograph that becomes inconvenient the moment breakfast starts.
