A useful renovation handover includes approval records, product details, concealed-work photos, and maintenance instructions. Collect them while the project is fresh.

The room is clean, the tools are gone, and the last invoice has an impressively final filename. Six months later, you need the dimmer model, the tile batch, and the location of a shutoff nobody labelled.

Keep evidence for the work that required review

ESA explains its Certificate of Acceptance and tells homeowners to obtain a copy from their Licensed Electrical Contractor. Keep applicable municipal permit and inspection records too. One document does not cover every trade or establish that every separate approval is complete.

Make the useful information easy to find

Create one labelled folder with the final scope, product models, finish colours, manuals, warranties, and installation photographs. Request a walkthrough of controls, shutoffs, access panels, and maintenance tasks. Record any outstanding work clearly. Financial or contract disputes need their own advice; this folder is an operating record for the house.

Before the next step

  • Collect applicable approvals and acceptance records.
  • Save model numbers, care guides, finish details, and concealed-work photos.
  • Walk through operation and record outstanding items together.

A good handover leaves you able to run the room, maintain it, and explain it to the next person. The final photograph is only one useful file in that folder.
